At Ascent Classical Academy, we teach and model the core virtues every day. Courage – the strength to face difficulties and to choose what is right even when it is hard – is a virtue that students have many opportunities to practice.

Just as George Washington’s daring crossing of the Delaware showed resolve in the face of great uncertainty, our students can show courage in their own daily lives.

In the classroom, courage may look like raising a hand to ask a question, admitting a mistake, or persevering through a challenging math problem. At home, it can mean standing up for a sibling, trying something new without fear of failure, or speaking the truth kindly even when it is difficult.

We encourage you to discuss the value of courage with your children this week. Ask them where they have seen courage – in history, in their classmates, or in themselves – and how they might continue to practice it.

MAP Testing

Students in grades K-8 will take the Measures of Academic Progress, or MAP, assessments in reading and math during the week of September 4-12, 2025. MAP tests measure what students already know and how they are growing academically. Ascent will administer MAP testing again in the winter and early spring.

Please make sure that students get a good night sleep before and have breakfast on the day of testing.

Coffee with the Headmaster

PowerSchool Parent Portal Update

Our district, the Charter Institute at Erskine, has notified us that the verification issue some parents are facing is due to hitting the limit of emails their system can handle in one day. They are continuing to work to find a suitable solution.

If you are having trouble verifying your new account or resetting your password, please email fortmill.office@ascentclassical.org so we can manually reset your access to the Parent Portal.
